Stop in R: −1 is the original stop, 0 is break-even. What is R?
The reasoning
How it started
Opened in early August as a deep-value entry near the 200-week VWMA. As the stock recovered it became a Fibonacci pullback to manage, measured from the June low (146.32) to the September high (268.27). An add zone sat at the 38.2% retracement, 207.30.
Management
For a while the stop was "soft": exit on two daily closes below 192.90. On September 30 that was replaced with a hard stop just under the day's low, 224.30. Other observation, not a rule: the 50 SMA sat above the 50% retracement.
How it ended
Closed on October 5 at 228.68, above the stop and logged as a discretionary exit.
Review
Pending. A soft stop on a deep-value position is exactly the tension described on the deep-value page. Moving to a hard stop is the change worth reviewing.

Connected ideas
- Deep value: buying quality near the 200-week VWMAA quality company sells off to its 200-week volume-weighted average. Scale in at pre-set levels, then manage it like a pullback once the trend turns.
- Moving averages: the 8, 21, 50, and 200-weekA moving average smooths price into a trend line. Four of them do most of the work in this record: the daily 8 EMA, 21 EMA, 50 SMA, and the 200-week VWMA.
- Pullback in an uptrendA strong stock dips back to its rising 8 EMA and holds. Buy the hold, stop under the day's low, trim into the next push.
