Stop in R: −1 is the original stop, 0 is break-even. What is R?
The reasoning
Why I took it
Squeeze setup. Today printed a tight inside bar (so far), and yesterday closed above the 8 EMA. Momentum is rising on both the weekly and daily charts. The pattern is tight and the squeeze looks great. I'd like to see more volume come in on the daily.
Structure
A 75/80 call debit spread, November 20 expiration. The most this can lose is the debit paid. Stop reference is today's low, 72.96.
The target is the 80 short strike, where the spread reaches full value. FCX doesn't have to tag 80 for this to pay. The spread can capture most of its value well before that.
Fills
No share fills recorded (options trades and manual entries show plan levels only).
Connected ideas
- Squeeze: tight range, building momentumVolatility contracts into a tight range while momentum builds underneath. The entry is the break out of the coil, with a stop at the day's low.
- The stop: deciding where you're wrongA stop is the price that proves the trade idea wrong. It's chosen before entry, placed as a live order, and only ever moved in your favor.
