Stop in R: −1 is the original stop, 0 is break-even. What is R?
The reasoning
Why I took it
APH looks strong on the daily: near highs, and part of the fiber-optic group that's been hot. It opened this morning up into the 8 EMA. The first 30-minute candle closed above it, then a small positive 30-minute candle followed. I got in on the break above that second candle.
- Stop: below the big wick low of the first 30-minute candle, 85.65.
- Target: 1R at 87.75, to take some risk off and see if it builds enough cushion to hold overnight.
Context
QQQ is weak today, below its daily 8 EMA and possibly headed toward the 21. APH is information technology, so I'm watching the broad market closely.
Review
Pending. The position was fully sold the same afternoon at 86.00, above the stop and below the target. The review will cover why.

Connected ideas
- Market regime filter (SPY & QQQ)Before buying individual stocks, check SPY and QQQ against their 8, 21, and 50-day averages. When they're below, stand down or only trade the indexes. When the 21 sits close above the 50, don't buy pullbacks.
- The stop: deciding where you're wrongA stop is the price that proves the trade idea wrong. It's chosen before entry, placed as a live order, and only ever moved in your favor.
