Stop in R: −1 is the original stop, 0 is break-even. What is R?
The reasoning
Why I took it
Pullback. Yesterday's close was above the 8 EMA. Today it opened right at the 8 EMA and didn't take out the day's low, with a 30-minute squeeze. The entry was good.
Stop: the day's low, 9.43.
Management
- Same day: sold about half at 9.94, roughly +1.3R against the 9.43 stop. The stop on the rest moved to break-even at 9.70, a nickel above entry.
- Exit philosophy: no fixed price targets. The target is the high of the range or an obvious swing high, and I take what the market gives. With the stop at break-even, that stop is what matters.
- October 9: trimmed more into strength. Next level is the relative swing high near 10.80, then about 12.40, the prior swing high and top of the base it would break out of. Otherwise the rest trails with a daily close below the 8 EMA.

Connected ideas
- Partial profits and the break-even stopSell part of the position into strength, then move the stop on the rest to entry. The trade can no longer become a real loser, and the remainder gets room to run.
- Pullback in an uptrendA strong stock dips back to its rising 8 EMA and holds. Buy the hold, stop under the day's low, trim into the next push.
- R: measuring every trade by its riskR is the amount you planned to lose if the stop hit. Every result on this site is a multiple of it, so a trade reads the same at any account size.
- Trailing stop: the daily close below the 8 EMAAfter the first trims, the remainder rides until the stock closes a day below its 8 EMA. It's a rule that lets winners run without guessing the top.
