Stop in R: −1 is the original stop, 0 is break-even. What is R?
The reasoning
The plan
Bought on October 5 with the protective stop split in two: half at the day's low (49.29) and half at the prior Friday's low (47.33). First target 57.
Management
On October 6 HTFL made a new relative high, and I consolidated the split stops into one stop on the whole position at the entry day's low, 49.29.
How it ended
It opened below the stop on October 7 and filled at 49.20, nine cents a share below the stop.
Review
Raising the lower half of a split stop after a new high cuts the trade's room to breathe. Whether that was right is the question for the review. The gap cost was small, but it's a clear example of gap risk: the stop price isn't the fill price.
Fills
- Bought 50% of position at 52.24Oct 5, 2026
- Added 50% of position at 52.34Oct 5, 2026

Connected ideas
- Gap risk: when the stop doesn't save youIf a stock opens below your stop, the stop fills at the open, not at your price. Holding overnight always carries this risk, and the record shows it.
- The stop: deciding where you're wrongA stop is the price that proves the trade idea wrong. It's chosen before entry, placed as a live order, and only ever moved in your favor.
